Why Change your cars brakes?
Well, we first need to identify the reasons for changing the brakes on your car. Your cars braking system is a vital part for your car, not only for performance but also for safety, by changing to a performance upgrade it can very cost effectively reduce your cars stopping ability, giving you a much safer and if used for fast road or track driving , a much faster car too! Other benefits can include less brake dust, making your wheels much easier to clean.
What is best for me?
The next area we need to look at is which brakes parts we can offer and a brief description of their benefits to your car. There are 3 main types of products available:
-
Uprated brake pads - This should be the first part on your shopping list, by just changing the brake pads on your car can make a big difference to its performance. There are many makers of brake pads around, all offering different benefits. The main products we sell and recommend are made by EBC, who offer a massive range of fitments, covering virtually all car manufacturers, so you can be sure there is something for your car! Their range includes several different pad compounds each suited to different cars and uses.
-
Uprated Brake Discs – The next step up to consider when changing the brakes on your car is the brake discs themselves. It is vital to check the condition of your discs when changing your brake pads, using worn or damaged discs with new pads will only damage the pads and result in very poor performance. Where possible it would be recommended to change both discs and pads at the same time if you are looking for the best stopping power. Performance brake discs come in a variety of styles, from cross-drilled and ‘dimpled’ to grooved, each style has different benefits when it comes to the deglazing of pads (keeping them clean and free from debris) and cooling. The most popular type we sell are what are know as combination discs, which are both drilled or dimpled and cross-drilled, these offer the best performance for most cars.
-
Big brake kits – For people after the ultimate performance, whether it be for road or track use, the best solution would be a complete brake package. These come in many different styles and varieties, but most offer you an oversized brake disc and larger more powerful calipers. These kits can really transform your cars braking.
